Yes, Obama made several attempts to make a better deal with some real sacrifices and compromise. But at every turn the GOP extremists changed the ransom demand. In the end Obama caved on the debt ceiling vote to avoid default.

Batman is in town filming the final installment of the Dark Knight. Maybe while he's here he can help us with some of our local villains.

The debt ceiling debate should have been a no-brainer vote as it has been in the past. President Reagan did it 18 times. George W. Bush did it seven times. It wasn't tied to ugly demands like it is now. Who is the real winner in this compromise? Nobody. It is a bad deal that will continue the ugly partisan politics. The Tea Party is claiming victory. I guess this is what they wanted. Go figure.
